Meet Our Founder, Gemma

Gemma Cullen is the founder and principal designer of Form and Function Interior Design, a studio rooted in the belief that spaces should be as intentional as they are beautiful.

Based in North Carolina’s High Country, Gemma is a graduate of Appalachian State University, where she earned her degree in interior design. She founded Form and Function Interior Design at just 19 years old while still in school, driven by a clear vision to create spaces that are both highly functional and thoughtfully refined.

Her academic foundation, paired with early hands-on client experience, allows her to approach each project with both creative vision and technical precision.

Her work reflects a refined yet approachable aesthetic, balancing clean, functional layouts with layered textures, natural materials, and timeless details. Guided by the belief that a well-designed home should support the way you live, each space is created with clarity, purpose, and longevity in mind.

Gemma’s design philosophy is simple: form and function should never compete, they should elevate one another. The result is spaces that feel effortless, livable, and quietly luxurious.

Known for her thoughtful process and collaborative approach, Gemma works closely with clients to create homes that feel deeply personal and intentionally designed, never overdone, never impersonal.

When she’s not designing, Gemma can often be found traveling, strength training, or connecting with those in her community, continually drawing inspiration from the places, people, and experiences that shape her creative perspective.
